5 Free Places to File Your Taxes

5 Free places in Victoria, BC to file your taxes for free.

Every dollar and benefit counts, especially for retirees and seniors.

Even things we don’t love can have benefits, like filing our taxes.

Many benefits, credits, and programs are available when you file your taxes. You may need to apply for certain benefits and credits, while you can claim others. The tax deadline for personal submissions in Canada is April 30, 2024, even with no income, to continue getting any benefit payments you may be entitled to.

Do you need help with your tax return? You may be eligible for help from a free tax clinic. Two basic requirements to qualify for assistance from a free tax clinic are a modest income and a simple tax situation.

What is a free tax clinic?

Revenue Canada has approved free tax clinics to assist those in need with completing their tax returns. These clinics are run by community organizations, and qualified volunteers complete the returns.

Each clinic offers various services, which may include Walk-in, Drop-off, or Appointment.

How do I get assistance from a free tax clinic?

Call ahead to ensure you have everything and confirm the available service style. You will need tax information slips or T4s, medical expense receipts, social insurance number, and identification. Check with your service provider for more details.

Stay encouraged if you still need slips or need help finding something.

A volunteer may also be able to retrieve some of your tax slips through the CRA’s online Auto-fill My Return feature. This feature allows a volunteer to recover any tax slips that the CRA has available at the time of the request. Please note that not all volunteers can access this online feature.
